This is a 5 week course that teaches the dog to search for narcotic odor, pinpoint and alert to narcotic odor.  The handler will learn how to read their dog and how to help the dog during the search.  This course covers all aspects of narcotic detection, to include but not limited to, practical searches, theory of training, problem solving  legal issues, and concealment methods.

  During this course the team will be exposed to the following type of searches:
 A)  Building Searches
 B)  Vehicle Searches
 C)  Luggage Searches
 D)  Parcel Searches
 E)  Buried Finds
 F)  Open Area Searches

The dog can be taught either a passive alert or an aggressive alert to the presence of narcotic odor.  At the end of the course the handlers are required to take and pass a written test.

The following narcotics are available to the teams while in school:
 1)  Marijuana
 2)  Heroin
 3)  Cocaine
 4)  Methamphetamine
 5)  Opium

We have bulk amounts of all odors and regularily train with amounts varying from a few grams, to a few pounds. We train only with real narcotics during the entire class. We do not use any pseudo narcotic odors.
